James Hyrum Bunce and Florence Bunce
My great grandparents were James Hyrum Bunce and Florence Bunce (formerly Reich). They moved to Blanco sometime between Jan of 1897 and Sept of 1898 from Salida Colorado. I know at one time they had a store in Blanco but I'm not sure of the name or whatever became of it. James had a stroke and was paralyzed from the neck down for approximatley 10 years. He died in 1939 in Bloomfield. He is buried in the Bloomfield cemetary. Florence maintained a peach orchard and garden to support the family. The family had several acres on HWY 64. Each of the living children (they had 16, but only 9 survived) had property in that area at one time. Florence passed away in May of 1967 and was buried next to her husband. My grandfather Roy Bunce(born in 1909) and his brother Lyman had homes on the edge of hwy 64 which are still standing today. The peach orchard still appears to be there, behind these homes, but it is overgrown. These homes are right before the arryo heading towards Blanco. Roy married Zelma Anderson. Zelma is also from the area, but I haven't figured out when her family arrived. Her mother passed away when Zelma was only 8 and is buried in the Hammond cemetary). Roy passed away in November of 1977 and is also buried in the Bloomfield cemetary next to his parents, and close by his brother Lyman. If you're wondering how I come into play in this lineage, Roy's daughter is my mother. (Photo and caption courtesy Colleen Pullen)
